McKenzie Buonaiuto
Founder / PRESIDENT

Daniel Griffioen
Chief operating officer
McKenzie Buonaiuto has over a decade of experience in international development and government work. For the past nine years, she has served communities across the Middle East, North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Similarly, in her position as a legislative aid in the Congress, McKenzie learned how to balance the dynamics and relations between the public and private sector as well as the government and non-profit world. Through her experience in both environments, she gained a deep appreciation for both and the importance of each. Fluent in Arabic and seasoned in cross-cultural engagement, she brings both strategic insight and grassroots understanding to her mission of empowering underserved populations and fostering governmental engagement.
Daniel Griffioen was born in Lebanon and has lived in the Middle East for 16 years. He came into contact with the Turkmen and started serving their community already as a young teenager. He has a strong understanding of different cultures and currently speaks six languages, including fluent Arabic and Turkish/Turkmen. Daniel has an M.A. in “Language, Community, and Development” from the University of Gloucestershire and two bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Linguistics from the University of Leipzig. He is passionate about advancing the literacy and educational opportunities of marginalized groups, e.g., by programming learning applications for mobile phones and the web (see www.griffinliteracy.com).
